getting there |
Clarion University is located in western Pennsylvania, just off I-80.
The closest major domestic (and international) airport is Pittsburgh International Airport, which is 95 miles/1:40 hours from Clarion. There are various regional airports closer to Clarion, but you will need to research travel logistics as larger planes do not service many/any of them. If flying with bike boxes and/or large gear bins, make sure you check to see if these local airports can accommodate such oversized baggage. Providing transportation to/from the airport has not been part of our initial planning, but we are exploring whether there is a feasible way to add this option, either as part of entry or as an add-on expense. We will update the site and racers. For now, assume there is no transportation assistance. For teams considering shipping bikes, we will be exploring options for bike receiving in Clarion in the coming months. |
included lodging |
Race entry includes two nights of lodging at Clarion University's Suites on Main: Sunday, June 19 and Saturday, June 25.
Rooms will be in suites with private bedrooms, common areas, bathrooms, and kitchenettes. All pre-race events will take place at the university. |
Additional Lodging |
The Suites on Main will also be available on Friday and Saturday night before the race and on Sunday night after it (June 17, 18, and 26) at $25 per person per night.

Food |
There are numerous dining options within walking distance of HQ on Clarion University's campus. We highly recommend Clarion River Brewing Company, which offers terrific food and outstanding brews, all less than half a mile from HQ. The brewery is one of our generous event partners. Other restaurants are scattered around downtown Clarion and the surrounding vicinity, including various fast food chains and pizza and sandwich shops.
The following groceries service Clarion and all can be found on Route 68, south of the town center: Aldi, Dollar General, and Walmart. All three are within 2.5 miles of Clarion University. And, yes, there is a Starbucks on Clarion's campus, too. |
Supplies and Gear |
There are a few pharmacies in and around Clarion; the local CVS is a few blocks from the university on Main Street.
The Walmart on Route 68 can serve as your general catch-all. |
Gear storage |
During the event, we will be able to store personal bags and items in a secure location at Clarion University. We also are exploring long-term parking options at Clarion.

Rootstock Racing designs courses that take you to the best parts an area has to offer. My Rootstock experience has been both beautiful and brutal at times! I appreciate their organization in the lead up to, and especially on, race day. Finally, I cannot compliment their network of volunteers enough. You can tell their events are a labor of love by everyone. -Anne Lang, Team brf barf |
