If you're losing faith in humanity or feeling disappointed in your expectations of people: watch an Adventure Race. It will heal and restore as you see people going through all of the emotions and taking turns holding each other up. Helping out at Endless as a first-timer was eye-opening to the world of AR - and now I get it, and would be thrilled and honored to carry bike boxes again!
-Dee Henry

While everyone will be watching the competitors racing against each other, against the course, against mother nature, and against themselves, the most important team at the Endless Mountains will be the volunteers. Race directors can't run events without the help of dedicated volunteers, especially at a multi-day event like this. While most of the fortune and glory goes to the racers, we all know that a race is defined by the smiling faces, gentle gestures of encouragement, understanding and compassion, and hard work that volunteers bring to every interaction.

With this in mind, we our looking to build a dedicated team of volunteers to keep the event running smoothly from the pre-race check-in to the post-race awards. We would love to have you for the duration of the event, but we know time is precious; if you cannot commit to the entire week, come join us for a day or two.

Think you want to join the fun? Please get in touch!

Potential Responsibilities

Jobs and responsibilities vary widely. You don't need to be able to do it all, but the more flexible you can be, the better. If you are able and willing to support our racers, we will find something that works for you!
  • A positive attitude!
  • Flexibility
  • Willingness to be in remote, outdoor areas for longer periods of time, potentially for twenty-four hours or more (unlike some expedition races, we do not anticipate staging volunteers at remote CPs that require hiking, biking, or paddling)
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to drive a U-Haul style truck
  • Ability to move gear bags and boxes that may weigh as much as fifty pounds (ideally with a partner)
  • Willingness to be available around the clock; we will do our best to ensure that all volunteers are able to rest each day, but adventure races run twenty-four hours a day, so overnight shifts may be necessary

We will provide

  • Event swag
  • Some food and drink
  • Lodging; as noted, volunteers will need to be available for some overnight duties, but we will provide lodging before and after the event. During the race, we will have some locations off-course for volunteers to rest in shifts
  • Funding to assist with gas
  • Credit to future Rootstock events (transferable to a friend or loved one if you are not interested in racing)
  • A rewarding, supportive, and fun week
  • Our undying gratitude and love!
